One of the first things you want to do after someone you know is arrested is get them out.
Even though you are presumed innocent, you can be held until trial unless you can post bond.
In Tennessee, bonding companies can charge a 10% premium on the bond amount, plus a small administrative fee, in order to make the bond of someone who has been arrested (for example, if the bond is $25,000.00, you would need to pay $2,500.00 to the bonding company for them to make the bond).
Tennessee law allows you to request that the bond be reduced. According to Tennessee law, factors such as the seriousness of the crime alleged, the defendant’s community ties, risk of flight, and danger to the community, are all factors to be considered in setting the bond amount.
Often times, the bond can be reduced, which can save a defendant’s family significant amounts in securing his or her release. Bond reductions can only happen upon written motion to the court.
