Getting a Letter of Explanation
If you are unable to get an expungement, we can still help you.
We have found in many cases, more than anything, potential employers simply want an explanation they feel they can trust for what happened in an employee’s criminal past. We have already assisted several clients with what we call “letters of explanation”. In short, we do our own review of what happened in your case and then offer an explanation letter you can include with your job application that minimizes the negative effects of your conviction and enhances the positive aspects of you as a potential employee (for example, explaining as an expert in criminal law that a DUI is a misdemeanor, the least serious of crimes under Tennessee law and that you successfully completed your probation, which demonstrates exceptional responsibility).? We understand that life is a complex business and many of us find that our past is not composed of uninterrupted victories, feted achievements and unalloyed successes. It would be unfortunate if all your hard work studying at elearners and college, not to mention other positives, were affected by a single error or slip up. A letter of explanation can make all the difference to your efforts to find the perfect job for you.
We can provide a letter for you now matter what state or county the crime occurred within.
If we tailor your letter to one specific employer, we will make ourselves available for any phone calls from that prospective employer if they require an additional explanation or want more information. Our goal is to use our experience in criminal law to represent you and lessen the negative effects of a criminal history that cannot be expunged.
We can customize the letter to any one employer you specify (which allows us to respond to phone calls on your behalf) or simply make it a generic “To Whom It May Concern” letter which you can use over and over with each new job application.
Each letter is drafted for your specific situation and tailored to your exact needs. It is provided on my law firm letterhead.
